The Doom Sequel Is Coming
The Doom series is a franchise with over 25 years of gameplay. Gruesome action and thrilling gameplay are a staple of the franchise, which has thrived on giving gamers the opportunity to kill the demons of Hell.
Enter Doom Eternal, the sequel to the popular 2016 Doom game. From the masterminds Bethesda Softworks.
Doom Eternal brings the Doom story to Earth, which has been overrun with demons. Initially announced at the E3 2018 convention, Doom Eternal is still in development with id Software, and the trailer debuts hellish variations of Earth’s cities, skeletons, destruction, and of course, the demons which have been the face of the Doom series since its inception.
With the limited information we have on Doom Eternal, it certainly appears the series’ is headed back to the beginning. Eternal is largely going to give players a dose of nostalgia, featuring key elements of the original 1994 Doom 2: Hell on Earth. This is more or less the same path Bethesda took with the 2016 Doom, a game that quickly rose to the 2nd place spot for best-selling video games of the year. Doom would also win Best Action Game at The Game Awards 2016, and numerous awards at the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers.
If Doom Eternal is to compete with its predecessor (we think it will surpass the Doom 2016 sales), it will have to be an incredible game.
So far, we don’t have any gameplay footage to work with. That will be coming next month. However we do have the promises from both the producer and creative director that the game will have twice as many demons, and the Doom Slayer will be even stronger than the 2016 version. Legendary composer Mick Gordon is going to be composing the soundtrack for Doom Eternal, so at least we can expect an amazing soundtrack for demon slaying madness.
From Bethesda themselves,
“As the Doom Slayer, you’ll return to take your vengeance against the forces of Hell. Set to an all-new pulse-pounding soundtrack composed by Mick Gordon, you’ll fight across dimensions as you slay new and classic demons with powerful new weapons and abilities.”
Doom Eternal is set to take place in the aftermath of the 2016 storyline. Samuel Hayden was successful in bringing the demons onto Earth, so one thing is certain: Doom Eternal is going to have some serious action.
But how will Doom Eternal stack up to the 2016 Doom?
We think the game can only get better, the rapid gameplay of Doom in combination with thrilling action and weapons will be enhanced from the 2016 version. Bethesda is a legend in their field, so whatever they give us is bound to be at the very least better than the prequel. We have high expectations for Doom Eternal.
More information, updates and footage for Doom Eternal is set to be revealed next month, at QuakeCon 2018. The convention’s keynote will also be livestream on Bethesda’s Twitch channel, so fans won’t have to wait to much longer to see the news.
