What Is Anthem?

Anthem is Bioware’s next big project, which has been rumored to be the one that will decide the studio’s fate for the foreseeable future one way or another. In short, it is an online sci-fi action RPG in which players will put on customizable exo-suits called Javelins that will enable them to navigate 3D environments as well as take on a wide range of enemies in both close quarters and ranged combat. Curiously, it has been stated that while players will be able to build relationships with NPCs, there will be no romances like in other Bioware RPGs, which is something that has prompted a lot of jokes about the whole situation.

When Will The Demo Be Released?

Regardless, it should come as no surprise to learn that there are a lot of people who are curious about how Anthem will turn out, particularly since Bioware is stepping outside of its comfort zone for this project. Fortunately, it seems that curiosity will be sated come February 1 of 2019, which is when Bioware will be releasing what it is calling a “VIP demo.” Said demo will be made available to those who have preordered the game as well as those who have subscribed to either EA on Xbox One or Origin Access on PC, which is particularly interesting news because it won’t be an attempt to get feedback on Bioware’s project but rather an attempt to show interested individuals a small slice of exactly what they can expect from the full release.

In the meantime, interested individuals might want to check out some of the footage that has been revealed with the latest marketing pitch, which has focused to some extent on the customization possibilities for the Javelin exo-suits. For example, Javelin exo-suits can’t change their load-outs mid-mission, thus making the between mission segments that much more important. Likewise, while some components will come from defeated enemies, other components will come from exploration instead. On the whole, Anthem is sounding somewhat interesting, but it remains to be seen whether it will be able to go up against the entrenched competitors in its chosen field or not.
