Who Is Inferno?
Inferno is an important character in the Soulcalibur series. This is because it is the soul of the cursed sword called Soul Edge, meaning that it can be considered the main villain for a number of the installments in the long-running series. Recently, a new trailer was released for the upcoming Soulcalibur VI, revealing that Inferno is set to become an unlockable character therein.
What Did We Learn about Inferno in Soulcalibur VI?
Appearance-wise, it is clear that the Soulcalibur VI version of Inferno is inspired by its look in previous Soulcalibur titles. The result is a skeletal monster that is both festooned with spikes and wreathed in unnatural flames, which is most suitable for its narrative role.
Moveset-wise, there are still some uncertainties about how Inferno is supposed to play. Previously, it was rumored that he would be a mimic character, which was perhaps unsurprising because that was true of his previous versions. Currently, the news is that Inferno will be based on Nightmare’s move-set but will have his own special effects on the moves, which makes sense because Nightmare is supposed to be Inferno possessing the knight Siegfried. Regardless, this is bound to be cleared up in the near future as Soulcalibur VI continues to approach its release date on October 19 of 2018.
Story-wise, Inferno’s role is more curious. We know that Soulcalibur VI will be revisiting the first Soulcalibur, which explains why the game has seen so much focus on older faces rather than the members of the new generation introduced in Soulcalibur V. As such, it seems reasonable to speculate that Inferno will be reprising his role as the final boss, which would explain why he is supposed to be an unlockable character. However, it will be interesting to see whether there will be any new twists in the story of Soulcalibur VI in regards to Inferno or not because a simple and straightforward retelling seems rather improbable to say the least.
