SEGA Cancels Shenmue HD Remake Projects
Recently, Sega released a port of Shenmue I & II for the PC, the PS4, and the XBox One. For the most part, it was the same as its predecessors, though there were a number of improvements made. What is interesting is that a much more ambitious remaster had been planned for Shenmue I and Shenmue II before it was cancelled by Sega in 2017.
Unfortunately, much is unknown and will presumably remain unknown about what was planned. However, what has been revealed suggests that there was a fair amount of work done on the remaster before the team switched over to its second, less ambitious project. As for Sega, it has commented that the previous remaster was cancelled because it would not have been able to meet the expectations of the fans.
