Some Equipment Has Status Effects
Dicey Dungeons’ gameplay is centered around various pieces of equipment that you can pick up during your journey. These equipment pieces fall under the offensive, defensive, buff, and debuff categories.
Along with the more traditional roles of dealing damage and blocking damage, many equipment items can also come with status effects such as fire, silence, or lightning. Most of these status effects have to be negated somehow in order to proceed.
Taking Damage Causes Limit Break
To be sure you will take a lot of damage in Dicey Dungeons, mostly because it’s a roguelike experience. Fortunately, the game throws you a bone whereby any damage you receive is converted into a limit break.
At the bottom of the screen near your health bar, you can find a limit break meter. Upon receiving enough damage, your chosen dice warrior can dole out some punishment. For example, the starting dice has an ability called Fury which deals double damage.
Leveling Up Fully Heals You
Simply put, leveling up in Dicey Dungeons refills your health bar. Given the nature of this roguelike experience, it can be easy to take damage, especially against the more formidable foes. Fortunately, each time you level up you get a fresh new health bar.
Aside from leveling up, you can also obtain healing via equipment during battle or from apples and items you find when exploring the various titles in each randomly generated dungeon.
Your Enemy’s Moves
Dicey Dungeons is a game all about tactics and strategy, as well as a bit of luck thrown in for good measure given the dice rolling mechanics. At any time during a battle, you can easily view your opponent’s upcoming moves by navigating towards the top of the screen.
This will serve you incredibly well as you learn about each equipment card and attack. Many of these attacks will cause status effects on your character which can severely hinder your turn. Get in the habit of viewing your opponent’s moves in order to get the advantage.
You Can Swap Out Equipment
During each run in Dicey Dungeons you will obtain many pieces of equipment. Since you might want to find a suitable build for your playstyle, it’s encouraged to try out as many pieces as often.
Fortunately, you can swap out your equipment cards at any time from the dungeon floor area. You are limited to a set number of cards based on size. Trying to fill out your inventory with cards that work well with each other.
