RimWorld Cheats and Tips
Keep Certain Workstations Separate
Hygiene is incredibly important for the health of your colonists. They need clean working environments to make sure that they stay healthy, feel safe, and be more productive. This is the case with the various workshops available in the game as well. It can be tempting to lob all of the multiple workbenches into the same room, but this will not end well. This is especially true with food-based workbenches, such as the Butcher Table, which can create quite a dirty mess. This will bring down the status of the entire room, making it not the most hospitable for other workbenches nearby.
If you keep specific workbenches in their very own room, you can ensure that it is not affected by other aspects. This is very useful for the Research Bench, as being inside a sterile room will increase a colonists’ research speed. So do your best to keep your researchers comfortable, making them more efficient. Keep an eye on the penalties/bonuses that a room gives, and use that as a guide to separate your workbenches. Keeping messy and clean workbenches separate ensures that they are used to the best of their ability.
Make Use Of Rich Soil
Another helpful Rimworld beginner tip is to make the most of Rich Soil if you have any. When first landing upon the planet, you should look for soil for your farms. When hovering over the soil, you’ll notice that certain darker patches of ground will display as Rich Soil in the bottom left of your screen. It is a good idea to place your farms over these patches rather than burying them beneath buildings.
Rich Soil is very fertile and is fantastic for speeding up the growth process for your plants. This is particularly helpful for slower-growing crops, especially in the early game when you want to get an excellent food supply for your colonists as soon as possible. If you have Rich Soil in your starting area, make the most of it, but don’t worry too much if there isn’t any. Regular Soil is still completely fine to use.
Collect Components Whenever You Can
This next Rimworld Tip is a bit more advanced, but even when starting out, it is a good thing to be considering as you get to grips with the game. Components are a limited resource that can get increasingly more difficult to get ahold of. They are used for constructing a lot of valuable pieces of electrical equipment. They are also used for vital repairs. You want to be cautious with your supply and be seeking them out whenever you can.
There are a few different ways to source components. You can find them buried in walls as Compact Machinery or within Ship Chunks that fall from space. The most convenient way to find them is to purchase them from traders. When you are visited by a Bulk Goods Trader or an Exotic Goods Trader, make sure to buy any components they have to add to your supply.
Play With Friends To Share Responsibilities
There is a lot to do in Rimworld, especially as a beginner trying to get to grips with the various survival mechanics the game has. While you are focused on one task, you might miss something equally important taking place elsewhere. A great way to simplify the learning curve is to play with friends. You can bring in a few extra helping hands to ease the workload with a multiplayer mod. Everyone has access to the same resources and can control everything themselves. One of you could be focused on food, while another works on construction. Work together to battle the challenges of Rimworld as a team.
It is pretty simple to set up a multiplayer game. You need to grab two mods from the steam workshop. These are the multiplayer mod and the Harmony mod. The latter is used to ensure the game is stable and runs well with mods installed. Once you have them both, restart the game with the two mods selected. Make sure that Harmony is booted up first, followed by the core game and then the Multiplayer mod. From there, one of you can host, and the game will play just like it usually would, but with your friends being able to tag along and contribute to the fun.
