Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Cheats and Tips
Realistic mode is not noob-friendly
This is the first and very likely the most important tip on this list. Playing in realistic difficulty might sound interesting, but the truth is that it is very hard to play, even for veterans of the game. And if veterans have a hard time playing realistic, then you can imagine just how discouraged new players will feel when things start to get sour in the game. Your influence will rise slower. Bandits and enemy lords will come after you more often. Recruiting people into your faction will be almost impossible.
But don’t fret, you can still get a taste of the real thing, you just need to know how to pick the right settings.
Shields can save your life
I get that two-handed weapons or long-distance weapons are very thrilling, but you will almost always need a shield to back you up.
Even if you don’t choose the realistic mode, battles are now much more life-like, meaning you will have to be more careful. Even if you are standing far from the enemy’s infantry, you are not safe from their archers – keeping a shield handy can be a lifesaver.
Always keep a minimum party of 20 soldiers
Roaming through Calradia alone is a great way to get yourself killed. There are dozens of looters and bandits all over the map, looking for easy targets. Most looter parties are made of 8 to 15 people, so keeping a party of 20 will ensure they don’t come after you.
You don’t even need 20 of the best soldiers. Even if your party is entirely made of recruits or peasants, as long as it’s bigger than the enemy’s, they will generally not attack you.
Move around often
The map is big and there is no reason for you to stick to one place. Every kingdom in Calradia has great opportunities for the player, whether it’s quests, alliance requests, or commerce opportunities.
Know which quests to accept and which to reject
Failing quests in Bannerlord is nothing like what it was in Warband. You need to carefully read quests’ descriptions before venturing into them. Why? Well, accepting quests and failing to complete them will result in a bad relationship with the person who delegated the quest to you. Plus, you won’t get the rewards, obviously.
Simply put, if someone asks you to put an end to a bandit lair, you better make sure you are ready to get the job done.
Always pay attention to your inventory
Food is one of the main ways to keep your party’s morale high. So make sure you always have a great variety of food (and lots of it!) in your inventory.
If you are planning to besiege a settlement and starve the enemy out, you might as well make sure you have enough food to not make your own troops go hungry. So check the counter on the right bottom of the screen to see the rate of food consumption and the number of days your food will last.
